We have a few "unwritten " requests to help us be good customers of the Forest :
You are issued with a key for access at the Northern gate.
Do not get another key cut for use by any one but yourself .
Do always lock the gate and do not allow anyone else to enter unless you know that they are authorised.
Do drive at only 5 mph around the peritrack. It is full of potholes and it is easy to get a puncture , and it is impossible to jack the car up to change a wheel as the surface is too soft !
Give way to pedestrians or cyclists , please.
Try and launch models especially power models away, say at least 50 metres from the peritrack .
Do not start or launch any type of model if you can see horse riders . They spook easily and the riders in many cases have a lot of clout (may be very well connected to other Forestry and Forest interests).
Some walkers/riders on occasions can complain about our activities. Produce your permit if necessary . Please remain polite and explain what our activities are about . Most are then quite interested and say “I remember doing that when I was a lad”. Well we are still lads.
Sounds all a bit paternalistic, I know , but we are very conscious that it is a privilege to have been allowed to fly our toy airplanes there for the last 60 years or so. Whilst I have no hope of being able to do so for the next 60, I will attempt to do so for a long a possible .
